The White House has said US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is scheduled to visit India to engage the new government in New Delhi on shared US-India priorities.

Sullivan’s visit was discussed during the phone call President Joe Biden made to PM Modi on Wednesday to congratulate him on his re-election.

“President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. spoke today with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India to congratulate him and the National Democratic Alliance on their historic victory in India’s general election,” the White House said in a readout of the call.

The US President also praised the Indian citizens for participating in the elections, with around 650 million casting their votes, the readout added.

The two leaders stressed their commitment to strengthening the US-India Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership and to advancing their common vision of a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, the White House readout further said.

Though Jake Sullivan’s visit has been announced, his travel dates to India are yet to be shared.

Meanwhile, the process of government formation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term was set in motion on Wednesday, with the parties of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) unanimously passing a resolution electing Modi as their leader in a meeting at the PM’s official residence.

All 21 NDA leaders signed the resolution, which appreciated Modi’s efforts in nation-building, welfare of the poor, and development, adding that they were all partners in that effort.
