The Uttarakhand cabinet has approved the final draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), paving the way for its tabling in the state Assembly during a special four-day session that begins on Monday.
The state cabinet passed the UCC draft at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his official residence on Sunday.
Earlier, the five-member expert committee tasked with drawing up the UCC had submitted the draft to CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday.
As per a report by The Indian Express, the committee recommended exempting tribal communities from the purview of the proposed legislation, prioritising women’s equality, banning practices like polygamy, and arriving at a uniform marriage age across religions.
