Trump charged in Georgia election inquiry

Donald Trump has been accused of trying to reverse his loss in 2020 election in the state of Georgia. 

The leading Republican candidate for president in 2024, was indicted along with 18 other associates. 

He refutes all 13 accusations levied against him, which include charges of racketeering and interference in elections. 

Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis first launched an investigation in Feb 2021 into allegations against Trump and his allies. 

Ms Willis announced she was giving Trump the opportunity to voluntarily surrender no later than noon on Friday 25 August. 

The most serious charge against Trump is violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act and is punishable by a maximum of 20 years in prison.  

Donald Trump says the charges and the whole process is politically motivated.

This is the 4th criminal case brought against the popular Republican leader in last 5 months.
