The West Bengal govet is mulling writing to the Centre on granting ST status to the Kurmi community, PTI has quoted an official as saying. As per the official, the decision was taken following a meeting between representatives of the community with West Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the state secretariat. Banerjee said during the meeting that her govt has written four times to the Centre on this issue, but no solution has been found till date.

“She also agreed to form a new Kurmi Samaj Development Board,” the official added.
