BJP MLA T Raja Singh has said he won’t be taking oath on Saturday, in protest against AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi being appointed as the Protem Speaker to conduct the proceedings.
“I am not going to take the oath if Akbaruddin is sitting in the Speaker’s chair. Akbar is the product of Qasim Razvi, the head of the Nizam’s Razakar army, which massacred Telangana people,’’ Singh told The Indian Express.
Controversial Muslim leader Owaisi took oath as Protem Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly in Raj Bhawan, Hyderabad on Saturday. The BJP opposed Owaisi’s appointment as speaker.
“BJP is against the appointment of Akbaruddin Owaisi as Protem Speaker (of Telangana Assembly). This is against the tradition of appointing senior MLAs to the post. BJP MLAs will boycott taking oath before this Protem Speaker. Our MLAs will take oath after a Speaker is appointed. We will never ally with such a party (AIMIM). We will go to the Governor on this,” Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy said.
The BJP’s tally in the Telangana Assembly has gone up from 1 in 2018 (Raja Singh was the sole winner at the time), to 8, with its vote share increasing from 6.90% to 14%.
