Gujarat: Muslims pelt stones at Navratri celebration, 6 injured

A mob of 150-200 Muslims, including women, led by Arif and Zahir from the nearby mosque pelted stones at the Navratri celebration in Undhela village in Kheda district.

Six people were injured in Undhela village of Matar taluka in Gujarat’s Kheda district on October 3, 2022, when a Muslim mob attacked the Navratri celebrations. The Garba function was organized by the village chief as part of the ongoing Navratri festival. A mob of 150-200 people, including women led by Arif and Zahir from the nearby mosque, reached the spot and asked the Hindus to stop the Garba function, following which stones were pelted at the Navratri celebration. 

Kheda DSP Rajesh Gadhiya informed: 

During Navratri celebrations in Undhela village last night, a group led by two people named Arif & Zahir started creating a disturbance. Later they pelted stones in which 6 got injured. 

“All the accused are being identified and strict action will be taken. Police deployed in the village and necessary arrangements have been made”, DSP added. 

VR Bajpai, DSP Nadiad informed: 

There were 150-200 people including women in the mob. Sarpanch has identified 43 people and gave a complaint against them. Around 10-11 accused have been detained for interrogation. 

Nine people have been arrested in connection with the incident so far.
