Israeli missiles targeted a site in the Islamic Republic of Iran in response to a recent drone and missile attack launched by Iran, according to a report in ABC News.

Israel told the US that it is not targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, CNN has reported citing a senior US official.

CNN has also quoted an US official saying the explosions in Iran are Israel’s response to Iranian attacks over the weekend. The official adds that the Israeli strikes are meant to be “limited” and would target Iranian military sites, while avoiding civilian and nuclear targets.

Iran said that it shot down several drones. Several drones “have been successfully shot down by the country’s air defense, there are no reports of a missile attack for now,” Iran’s space agency spokesman Hossein Dalirian said in a post on X.

The Fars news agency said “three explosions” were heard near the Shekari army airbase near Isfahan.

Iran’s local media said that nuclear facilities in the central city of Isfahan were “completely secure” after explosions were heard near the area.

Israel’s alleged missile strike comes after Iran’s assault last Saturday, which involved over 300 drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. Nearly all of these projectiles were intercepted by Israel and its allies, including the US.
